CFO's are Increasingly Involved in Operational Decision-Making

Too often, the information and support needed to manage isn't readily accessible. HWC's Decision Support System and expert Consulting staff can help.
The role of the CFO has evolved over the last decade to include many non-traditional tasks. Naturally, activities like preparing financial statements, budgeting, revenue modeling, capital financing, and other related financial management functions (e.g. accounts receivables management, accounts payable, payroll, etc.) still represent the core responsibilities of the CFO. That said, today's CFO's are expected to play a larger role in the organization's leadership team.
Today's financial leaders need to be able to respond quickly with accurate financial information. The simple fact is many legacy systems currently in place may not have key information readily available. Working in conjunction with our clients as business advisors, we have seen first hand business intelligence deficiencies, and a need for tools specifically designed to meet the requirements of hospital CFOs. HWC developed the HALCYON DSS to fill the void.
It is our belief that most legacy systems do not have the requisite methodologies to accurately estimate financial results, creating a lag time of 120 days or more before real financial results are known. The HALCYON DSS is designed with sophisticated levels of automation to facilitate accurate estimates of revenues (what will ultimately be paid). This is done through a combination of precise contract pricing and the use of historical data to estimate expected reimbursement, net of bad debts, typically within the first five (5) days of month end close. Of course, as subsequent data is known, the true picture emerges. Because everything is done at a granular level, our clients get access to better information, and can refine estimates as new patterns become known. With a multitude of reporting capabilities, we can help hospital financial leaders deliver more meaningful results in real time.
HWC works with hospital CFO's to get the most out of these business intelligence tools. We offer wraparound support and consulting services to:
-
Improve strategic pricing and contract negotiation;
-
Offer real-time insight to facilitate strategic planning;
-
Perform improved demand analysis and revenue forecasting;
-
Quantify product-line profitability;
-
Measure actual performance against forecasts;
-
Analyze the overall picture on an on-going basis; and
-
Assess impact of changing a course of action.
We understand your challenges. As a firm, we have over 22 years of experience, but as healthcare financial professionals, our experience is counted in decades. Our consultants have worked in a broad range of hospital financial leadership positions, and we bring our expertise, unique perspectives, and business intelligence tools to each engagement.
